Concerned Human Rights Nigeria, led by Declan Ihekaire, has risen against the recent re-introduction of ATM withdrawal charge of N65.00 by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, under the new governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
Speaking at a press conference, Wednesday, Ihekhaire said there was no reason for the re-introduction of the ATM withdrawal charge, which was N100 under former CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and later abolished by him, and now N65.00 under Emefiele.
Arguing against the reason for the policy somersault, he said: The CBN said the re-introduction of the fee was cover the remuneration of the switches, ATM monitoring and fit-notes processing by acquiring banks. So, does it mean that when Sanusi abolished the charges on ATM withdrawals, the remuneration of the switches and ATM monitoring and fit-notes processing stopped? Did the banks collapse? No is the answer to both questions.
He blamed the government for always shifting burden on the masses, who have already been short-changed. He added: If this policy is not reversed, Nigerians shall transfer aggression on President Jonathan who appointed Emefiele to add pains to the plight of Nigerians.
