Astonishing video footage has emerged of a young child being pulled alive from underneath a pile of rubble in war-torn Syria.

The unverified clip was reportedly shot as government forces bombed rebel-held areas in the northern city of Aleppo on Tuesday.

Uploaded on to YouTube by Syrian activists opposed to the Bashar al-Assad regime, it shows a group of men desperately rushing to free the trapped toddler.

They were reportedly alerted to cries from the helpless youngster stuck underneath the rubble in Syria’s ancient northern city.

The group manage to free the boy’s arm before more dirt and rocks are removed to expose his head and upper body.

Seemingly unconscious at first, the dazed boy then wakes up and can be seen rubbing dust away from his eyes.

The crying child is then freed completely to loud cheers from the gathered crowd.

The footage emerged as the Assad regime reiterated its rejection of a proposal to form a transitional ruling body as part of a political solution to the country’s nearly three-year conflict following talks in Geneva.
