The Nigerian Military on Tuesday said it has recaptured terrorists’ camps in Alagarno, one of the strongholds which provided routes to neighbouring towns and countries. The Defence spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, in a statement said, “Nigerian troops have this morning successfully completed a raid on all terrorist camps in Alagarno in Borno State.

Alagarno is the major haven of terrorists ahead of Sambisa forest.” He said the forest in Alagarno had made it a safe haven for the terrorists for a long time because the terrain was not easily accessible and endowed with natural hideouts from aerial bombardments. Mr. Olukolade said some weapons and other equipment were recovered from the military operation on Tuesday morning. He said items captured from the insurgents include armoured vehicles, several arms and ammunition of various sizes and calibres, power generating sets, grenades and Improvised Explosives Devices. Others are bows and arrows, megaphones and rolls of copper cable which the terrorists used for the production of IEDs.

He said that a cordon and search operation was ongoing in the area to make the environment habitable for residents who were displaced by the terrorists. The military in an operation which commenced on February has liberated many towns and communities – in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa states – formerly under the control of Boko Haram.
