Google has released a list of the most googled events in 2014. some names on the list are, Michael Schumacher Accident, MH370 / Missing Plane, Chibok girls, ASUP Strike, amongst others.

  • CHAN 2014
The 2014 African Nations Championship was the third tournament. The 16 national teams featured players from the respective national championships. The tournament took place between 11 January and 1 February 2014 in South Africa. Originally, the tournament was to be hosted in Libya. This was the first African Nations Championship tournament where all matches were considered full international matches.
  • Michael Schumacher Accident
Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher hit his head while skiing in the French Alps resort of Meribel on December 29 2013. He was wearing a helmet when the accident happened just off piste, between two ski runs. He was operated on for a brain haemorrhage and left in a coma fighting for life
  • MH370 / Missing Plane
By March 2015, it will have been a year since Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has gone missing. In the absence of evidence as to why the plane has disappeared, numerous conspiracy theories have emerged in an attempt to explain why the aircraft is still missing, according to reports.

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on a sit-at-home strike over the non-payment of their three months salaries (August, September and October).
As the strike paralysed academic activities of the school, aggrieved students of the university quietly began beating their own war drum over the increment in tuition fees, coupled with the unwillingness of the management to conduct the students’ union election.
  • Abuja bomb blast
Bomb blast rocked the Emab Plaza shopping complex in the Wuse district of the Nigerian capital, Abuja on
Scores of shoppers were killed in the attack.
Human parts and some bodies scattered on the ground but we are too scared to get closer for fear of another bomb,” a reporter at the scene said.
People were seen running from the complex with blood on their clothes.

Myles Monroe plane crash
Dr Myles Munroe died in the accident, believed to have been caused by turbulent weather.
He was traveling in the Lear 36 Executive Jet with his wife Ruth and several members of their Evangelical congregation to Grand Bahama to attend the 2014 Global Leadership Forum that he organized.
  • Chibok girls
On the night of 14–15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno state , Nigeria. Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic  Jihadist and terrorist organization based in northeast Nigeria.#
  • World Cup 2014
The 2014 FIFA World Cup was the 20th FIFA WORLD CUP, the tournament for the association football world championship, which took place at several venues across Brazil. Germany won the tournament and took its fourth title.
