Chelsea go into Christmas as Premier League leaders

Cesc Fabregas set up John Terry to open the scoring within two minutes, before sealing victory in the second half with a scruffy finish, as Chelsea defeated Stoke City 2-0 at the Britannia to open up a three-point lead at the top of the league.

Manchester City’s 3-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace, meant they drew level with Jose Mourinho’s men, putting pressure on them as they took on Stoke on Monday evening.

Terry’s header from Fabregas’ corner-kick settled their nerves early on, but they failed to make their superiority count, allowing the hosts back into the game.

Mark Hughes’ men also failed to capitalize on their ascendancy, until Fabregas’ crude finish settled the game as a contest
