2014 Social Media Awards Africa #SMAA2014: NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR VOTING STAGE

One hundred and fifty nominees (150) have been announced for the voting stage of the 2014 Social Media Awards Africa #SMAA2014. The voting window will run from November 18–28, 2014  atwww.smaafrica.com/vote
Announcing the list of successful nominees and the commencement of the voting stage of the awards at a Press Conference in Lagos-Nigeria, Femi Aderibigbe, Project Lead, SMAAfrica, expressed the delight of the conveners at the overwhelming turnout in the nomination process which lasted for 27days.
‘After rigorous evaluations and background checks, we are excited to present the list of 150 successful nominees for the 2014 Social Media Awards Africa. Beyond our initial entry target of 700, we received about 923 entries for the 15 Awards featured for this year’.
The voting window is part of the process leading to the emergence of 15 Finalists for the 4 Categories and 15 Awards for the maiden edition of the Social Media Awards Africa – a premier continental initiative which seeks to recognize and reward creativity, excellence and impact in the usage of social media across Africa.
Voting accounts for only fifty (50) percent of cumulative scores while the Jury evaluation accounts for the other fifty (50) percent based on five (5) criteria; Influence, Originality, Creativity, Scalability and Impact. 15 finalists will be announced and honoured at the award’s event ‘Night of Virtual Wonders’ slated for December 6th, 2014.
According to the Executive Director, Finance and Strategy, Abubakar Suleiman, Sterling Bank – sponsor of the awards; the bank is committed to advancing human and social development across Africa with focus on the growing relevance of social media around the world with Africa in particular.
Winners of the 2014 Social Media Awards Africa will be rewarded with US$1,000, SMAA Plaque, Institutional Trainings, Access to relevant social influencers amongst other benefits.
