2014: Ebola, World Cup, ASUP Strike Top Google Searches In Nigeria

Google searches have revealed that Ebola, World Cup and ASUP strike are the highest searches in Nigeria.
This comes as a result of the world’s largest search engine, Google’s “14th Annual Year in Search” took a look at 2014 through the lens of the world on the web. The giant company provided an exclusive perspective on the year’s main events and newest trends based on searches in Nigeria.


As anticipated, the Ebola disease was the highest search term in Nigeria followed by the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the seven-month ASUP strike.
This year, following the abduction of over 200 female students in Chibok, Borno State, “BringBackOurGirls” also became a worldwide top search.
Also, typed more in the google search bar is the question “what is mutiny?” which increased after the announcement of the sentencing of the 12 Nigerian soldiers in September this year.
Other interesting searches included; the iPhone 6, renowned preacher Myles Munroe and former director general of NAFDAC, Dora Akunyili.
Top on the list of most searched Nigerian musician is Davido while in football clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona were all top hits.
