The People’s Democratic Party in Cross River State on Monday concluded  its rescheduled ward delegates congress in the central senatorial district.
The national headquarters of the party had last week ordered the cancellation of the result of the  November 1 ward congresses across the state and rescheduled a new one for Monday.
This is coming despite pending court cases that had trailed the conduct of the November 1 exercise.
However, our correspondent who monitored the exercise at Ikom, observed that the materials for the congress arrived Ikom Police Station at about 12 noon and by 2:pm voting began in the two wards, Ikom Urban ward 1 and 11.
One of the officials Mr Chris Njah described the exercise as a huge success, saying that the turnout was very impressive.
He said, “I lack words to express how the people of Ikom feel over who their next Senator should be; they have come out today in large numbers to cast their votes  for their delegates.”
He commended security operatives and party faithful for the orderly conduct of the exercise.
One of the party members  from Ajaso ward in Etung Local Government Area, Mr Augustine Ekuri, said the congress election in the ward was peaceful and orderly.
Ekuri said the exercise was conducted in the watchful eyes of security agents and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“It was free and fair. The security agencies were there including the Civil Defense, State Security Services and the Police. INEC officials were also there to observe the event, ‘’ he said.
He said the people were ready for the exercise, adding that they turned out in large numbers exercise their right as party faithful.
In his reaction, the member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Bassey Ewa, described the congress as orderly and peaceful in the area.
Ewa said the exercise has demonstrated the people’s willingness to choose their delegates.
The Divisional Police Officer in Ikom, Mr Odey Ujim said that the police had lived upto their responsibility by protecting the and delivering the materials to their various wards.
The Cross River Central Senatorial District comprises of six local government areas of Yakurr, Boki, Obubra, Etung, Abi, Ikom.
