It came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking Jehovah; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised Jehovah, saying, For He is good; for His lovingkindness endureth for ever; that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of Jehovah. 2 Chronicles 5:13 (ASV)
Today, music is described as one of the major forms of entertainment, as there are many genres of classical and contemporary music that people enjoy listening to. Some of which are: Rhythm & Blues, Country, Hip Hop, Pop, Jazz, Reggae, Rock and several others. Different music artistes also employ the use of different concepts, styles and instruments to create delightful music.
However, music is not merely for entertainment as it has many other benefits. Studies have shown that when pregnant women have time listening to music, they are helping their babies’ brain development and reducing stress for themselves. Music helps the development of speech and memory. Music can also assist people to recover from chronic pain and emotional distress.
Indeed, God is the Creator of Music. Revelations 4:10 says, ‘’The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.’’
As such, any form of music and rhythm we choose should be inspiring and glorify God in it. Now the question is: What kind of music inspires you? How much do you love to praise God? What’s your music flow? What’s your rhythm in this Month of Praise?
