President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday in Onitsha, Anambra urged politicians to observe decorum and civility as the state holds its gubernatorial election on Saturday.

The President spoke at the palace of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, where he paid homage before proceeding to the PDP governorship campaign.

The president said the interest of the state and the country should be placed above personal and political interests.

"In Anambra State, APGA is Jonathan and PDP is Jonathan. I don't know what to do,'' the president said, while creating a balance of interest on the welfare of the state and its people.

The president noted that Anambra occupied a strategic place in the history and future of Nigeria, noting that "when Anambra succeeds then Nigeria has succeeded".

"Most of the entrepreneurs in the country come from Anambra State. Anambra is one of the smallest states in the country but one of the wealthiest in terms of human capacity."

He said that 50 per cent of the jets in the country were owned by entrepreneurs from Anambra.

"Also, some of the best egg heads and academicians come from Anambra. It is a state that is important to Nigeria," he said.

The president called on the electorate to be vigilant in choosing the right leader for the state and to insist on peaceful conduct during the process.

In his response, the Obi said the president should prevail on the "two PDP candidates"’ from Anambra North to resolve their differences and ensure peaceful conduct of the polls.

NAN reports that the president departed Onitsha after the rally for the country home of billionaire philanthropist, Chief Arthur Eze in Ukpor.

The president also paid a courtesy call on the Obi of Ukpor, Igwe Robert Eze, who is also the older brother of Arthur.

He assured the Igwe and the chief in council that his administration was out to better the lot of the masses.

Igwe Eze said the traditional rulers in Anambra had resolved to support Jonathan if he made up his mind to contest the presidential election in 2015.

The president and the billionaire later held a closed door meeting.
